POKOTABI / Keita
慶太
Tucked along a Machiya backstreet, Keita is an izakaya serving seasonal sashimi, fried bites, risotto, and ochazuke. Run solo by its owner, it offers a relaxed space where orders are jotted down by hand.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Scanning the strips of paper lining the wall to decide on the first pairing of the evening is part of the pleasure at Keita. Tucked away in Machiya, this small izakaya is run single-handedly by its female proprietress, featuring a shifting selection of dishes guided by the day’s market haul. After unwinding with a welcoming bowl of warm shijimi clam broth served before the meal, diners naturally move on to seasonal drinking fare such as sashimi, tempura, and grilled bites.
What keeps the menu engaging is its seamless reach beyond traditional Japanese small plates into Western-influenced creations and comforting rice dishes. Portions are measured nicely for solo diners, and finishing options are plentiful, ranging from crisp grilled onigiri and colorful ochazuke to rich squid-ink risotto. With a draft beer or a classic shochu sour in hand, it is an easy place to build a leisurely evening dish by dish.
The intimate space features both counter seating and a few tables, operating with an unhurried, informal ordering style where guests write down selections on slips of paper. Open from 17:00 until 23:00 in the evening, the bar works equally well for a quiet solo nightcap or an unhurried meal with a friend. Because seating is limited, calling ahead to reserve is advisable.
